Bedroom Sliding door

Difficulty level =

The project was to replace the small 5' window with a sliding glass door from the master bedroom which would give easy access to the Japanese Bath House in the back yard.

BEFORE: AFTER:
Exterior siding is removed. Wiring through this wall has been re-routed.
Now the studs are removed. The door is "roughed-in into place.
Ready for trim, the view out the door. Project complexity:
The window was already a standard 5' opening so a stock 5' slider was purchased from Home Depot. To avoid breakage, I had Home Depot deliver the slider to the house.

Electrical wiring running through this segment of wall had to be re-routed. An outdoor weather-proof outlet was placed on the right (exterior) side of the door and a two-gang switch box on the left (interior) side. These boxes on either side of the door were connected by running wire up the walls into the attic, then back down the walls to the switch boxs. The two-gang switch operates a porch light outside the door and a flood lamp at the roof apex which illuminates the entire yard.

My friend William helped me to lift the heavy door into place. Project completion time: 1 day.
